Privacy Policy & Client Confidentiality

Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. is committed to upholding the highest standards of confidentiality, data integrity, and privacy in compliance with AICPA ethical standards and federal financial privacy laws.

Confidentiality Standards of CPAs

CPAs have been and continue to be bound by professional standards of confidentiality that are even more stringent than those required by federal law. We have always protected the right to privacy of our clients and continue to safeguard personal and commercial financial records.

Types of Nonpublic Personal Information We Collect

We collect nonpublic personal information that is provided to us by you or obtained by us with your authorization. This includes:

  • Information provided on tax organizers, applications, worksheets, and other documents (such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, assets, and income).
  • Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others (such as bank account records, investment statements, payroll ledgers, and billing histories).
  • Information provided during formal audit, assurance, and business valuation engagements.

Parties to Whom We Disclose Information

For current and former clients, we do not disclose any nonpublic personal information obtained in the course of our practice except as required or permitted by law and the Code of Professional Conduct of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Permitted disclosures include, for instance, providing information to our employees and, in limited situations, to unrelated third parties who need to know that information to assist us in providing services to you (e.g., software vendors, secure cloud hosting providers). In all such situations, we stress the confidential nature of information being shared.

Protecting the Confidentiality and Security of Your Information

We retain records relating to professional services that we provide so that we are better able to assist you with your professional needs and, in some cases, to comply with professional guidelines. In order to guard your nonpublic personal information, we maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with our professional standards.

For digital file transfers, we employ enterprise-grade, encrypted portals (Citrix ShareFile) to prevent unauthorized interception or disclosure of sensitive financial records.

If you have questions regarding our privacy practices or electronic data protections, please contact our administrative team at (302) 225-0600 or visit our Wilmington headquarters.
